Solo Percussion Recital

Solo percussion recital. Featuring world premieres of Venet's newest commission 'Vocalise' for soprano marimbist by Steve Danyew ( and ‘Amethyst’ for drumset and ensemble by Brant Blackard. Also works by Miyoshi, Radiohead, Venet, and include traditional songs on West African gyil arr./trans. by Lobi/Naranjo.

Steve Weiss Mallet Festival

Andrea Venet will be a featured soloist at the Friday night event alongside Leigh Howard Stevens, Tony Miceli, David Friedman, Phillip O'Banion, Richard Robinson, Alyssa Resh, and the Temple University Percussion Ensemble. 

The Steve Weiss Mallet Festival features some of the top mallet players in the world. The festival is dedicated to the memory of Steve Weiss the founder of Steve Weiss Percussion. Steve Weiss is the biggest percussion distributor in the world, and while Steve was alive he helped many of us buy percussion equipment by selling at the best prices in the world. And he was supportive of our work and efforts as percussionists. I had a friendship with Steve that lasted from 1979 until his death in 2014. I’m honored to be able to put this festival on in his memory. This event is hosted/coordinated by Tony Miceli.

Prairie Music Residency - Saskatoon, Canada

Andrea Venet will be the guest percussion director/soloist in residency, working with the percussion ensemble and presenting clinics.

The Prairie Music Residency was set up by Saskatoon Brass Bands Inc. in 2013 to help further enrich the long-standing tradition of British-style brass banding in Saskatchewan and North America, while offering players a chance to work with world class brass band musicians and improve their skills in an intimate and inclusive environment.

The course takes place at the University of Saskatchewan (Saskatoon) and is divided into two streams: brass band and percussion. Each course runs simultaneously during each day, combining a mixture of rehearsals, clinics, masterclasses and other performance opportunities that culminate in two concerts with the guest soloists, conductors and clinicians.

Escape Ten will give a performance and lecture on their recent commission for marimba duo, Illuminations (2018) by Eric Guinivan (Assistant Prof. of Composition at James Madison University and former percussionist with L.A. Percussion Quartet.

Illuminations - Three Canonic Reflections on the Nature of Light, is a collaboration between Escape Ten and Guinivan. This 3-movement tour-de-force marimba duo was commissioned by the prestigious Harvard Fromm Foundation.
The presentation will be given at the Conservatori Professional de Música de Xàbia, Calle Rafael Echagüe, 5, 03730 Xàbia, Alacant, Spain. 

4-5pm session.

WASBE Conference - Buñol, Spain

The Escape Ten Percussion duo (Dr. Andrea Venet & Dr. Annie Stevens) will be featured soloists with the University of North Florida Wind Symphony, directed by Dr. Erin Bodnar. Repertoire performed includes Sejourne's Double Concerto for Marimba and Vibraphone, arr. for wind ensemble. The UNF Wind Symphony is one of two American ensembles selected to perform at this prestigious international conference.

World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE) is the only international organization of band directors, composers, musicians, publishers, teachers, instrument makers and friends of wind music. It is the only organization dedicated to improving the quality of wind bands around the world and teaching its members new worlds of repertoire, musical culture, people and places. WASBE is an international non-profit association open to all people, institutions and industries interested in symphonic wind bands and wind ensembles.

Illuminations: Escape Ten at the Cummer Museum

Jacksonville, Florida - Escape Ten Duo will premiere Eric Guinivan’s Illuminations on Thursday, June 6th. Doors open at 5:30pm, concert starts at 7:00 PM at The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens (829 Riverside Avenue, Jacksonville, Florida 32204). At 5:30, wine and snacks will be available for purchase, and galleries will be open to guests until the concert begins at 7pm. Free admission. Commissioned by a grant awarded by Harvard's prestigious Fromm Foundation, Guinivan composed Illuminations in 2018 for Escape Ten. 

In addition to Illuminations, Escape Ten will be giving a full concert of contemporary compositions and arrangements as well, showcasing a diverse collection of sounds, styles, and instruments. 

Percussion Ensemble Presents: Magic Time

The Virginia Tech Percussion Ensemble welcomes the esteemed percussionist, composer, and educator, Russell Hartenberger, to campus for a residency culminating in an evening of exciting percussion music in Squires Recital Salon.

Hartenberger is Professor Emeritus and former Dean of the Faculty of Music, University of Toronto. He is also a member of the internationally renowned percussion ensemble, Nexus, and has been a member of the group, Steve Reich and Musicians, since 1971.

On the May 4th concert, the Escape Ten percussion duo (Dr. Annie Stevens, Virginia Tech and Dr. Andrea Venet, University of North Florida) in collaboration with the Virginia Tech Percussion Ensemble will present the world premiere of Hartenberger's "Magic Time" for seven percussionists, a piece commissioned by the Escape Ten duo. "Magic Time" will feature newly designed tuned cymbals, created exclusively for this piece by Dream Cymbals and Gongs out of Toronto, Canada. This Reich-inspired work features the duo on the marimba, and members of the percussion ensemble on tuned gongs, cymbals, and other mallet instruments. It is sure to be an exciting night of percussion premieres!

Northwest Percussion Festival

Northwest Percussion Festival at Northwest Missouri State.

Events begin at 10 AM on Saturday, February 23rd in the Olive DeLuce Center for Fine and Performing Arts. We are honored to be hosting Black Swamp Percussion, Christopher McLaurin of the Kansas City Symphony, and the Escape X Percussion Duo. The day will also feature appearances from Dr. Joshua Knight (Missouri Western State), the Grain Valley High School percussion ensemble, and Northwest percussion students.

This School of Performing Arts performance features an eclectic combination of percussion artists and ensembles. Along with performances by the award-winning Virginia Tech Percussion Ensemble, the evening features Escape Ten (Annie Stevens and
Andrea Venet) presenting their vibrant works for percussion duo and joining the Virginia Tech Percussion Ensemble on Emmanuel Sejourne’s Double Concerto. The performance also features Otu Kojo of Ghana, West Africa, who leads the Virginia Tech West African Drumming Ensemble.
